REGULAR MONTHLY BOARD MEETING 

OF THE SUPERVISORS OF THE TOWN OF MORSE HELD ON

February 14, 2023

 

At 5:00 p.m. on February 14, 2023 at the Morse Town Hall, Chairman Terry Soderberg called a regular meeting of the Supervisors of the Town of Morse to order with the following present: Supervisor Bob Berrini, Supervisor Terry Soderberg by phone, Supervisor Len Cersine, Clerk Nick Wognum and Treasurer Mary Ann Lekatz. 

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

The minutes of the January 10, 2023 meeting were reviewed. 

 

A motion was made by Cersine, seconded by Berrini to approve the minutes of the January 10, 2023 meeting. Motion carried. 

 

Lekatz presented claims 16323 to 16347 for $43,483.60 with $34,466.24 for the fire truck payment. 

 

A motion was made by Berrini, seconded by Cersine to approve the claims as presented. Motion carried. 

 

Lekatz presented receipts 754 to 757 for $859.24 including a reimbursement of a check and $47.49 in interest. 

 

The annexation notice from the State of Minnesota was received for the properties on Shagawa Lake. 

 

The board approved moving forward with the DNR on the purchase of the four township owned parcels.

 

Berrini said the ambulance service switched the companies they use for billing. There is a meeting of the Ambulance Joint Powers Board on February 28. 

 

St. Louis County will be holding a public hearing on SSTS. The board took no action.

 

A notice from St. Louis County for a reclassification of state tax forfeit land was reviewed. The adjoining property owner, Thomas Conaway, will be purchasing the property 465-0020-01965. 

 

The Town of Morse Local Board of Review will be on April 25, 2023 from 9-10 a.m. 

 

A notice was receiving from the United States Department of Commerce/U.S. Census Bureau on boundaries, the clerk will respond. 

 

A letter was received from the Minnesota Association of Township Insurance Trust. This was a notification that an email payment was misdirected. However, the monies were recovered.

 

There was discussion on putting a park on an island on Shagawa Lake. There was discussion on potential uses of the property. Wognum will contact Stacy Melcher about the island on Shagawa Lake that the township is still considering options for the property. 

 

Berrini said the EAAS is looking at hiring its own architect and putting in a generator. He said they are reviewing the paper trail for the $1.3 million in federal funding.

 

Lekatz said the levy hasn’t changed for the 2024 budget and that everything looks good. 

 

The board decided to change the date of the March meeting to March 7 with the Board of Audit at 4:30 p.m. and the regular meeting at 5 p.m. 

 

Berrini said RAMS is looking to hire someone for the executive director position but didn’t have a quorum at their last meeting. 

 

Lekatz reported she changed a Certificate of Deposit from .07 to 3.85 APY at Frandsen. We should make between $400 and $500. 

 

Berrini asked that a letter be sent to St. Louis County on the homestead applications where the entire Social Security number is being requested. Instead the last four of the Social Security number should be requested. 

 

The meeting was adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
