REGULAR MONTHLY BOARD MEETING 

OF THE SUPERVISORS OF THE TOWN OF MORSE HELD ON

May 9, 2023

 

At 5:00 p.m. on April 11, 2023 at the Morse Town Hall, Chairman Len Cersine called a regular meeting of the Supervisors of the Town of Morse to order with the following present: Supervisor Bob Berrini, Supervisor Terry Soderberg, Supervisor Len Cersine, Clerk Nick Wognum, Treasurer Mary Ann Lekatz. 

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

 

The minutes of the April 11, 2023 meeting were reviewed. 

 

A motion was made by Soderberg, seconded by Berrini to approve the minutes of the April 11, 2023 meeting. Motion carried. 

 

The minutes of the April 25, 2023 Local Board of Appeal meeting were reviewed. 

 

A motion was made by Soderberg, seconded by Berrini to approve the minutes of the April 25, 2023 local Board of Appeal meeting. Motion carried. 

 

Lekatz presented claims 16388 to 16437 for $69,823.18. This includes two claims approved at the April meeting, $41,009.50 and $241 for mileage. There is also a voided claim for Lake Country Power. 

 

A motion was made by Berrini, seconded by Soderberg to approve the claims as presented. Motion carried. 

 

Lekatz presented receipts 766 to 767 for $16.25. 

 

Wognum presented a bill from Unemployment Minnesota for $5,969.73.

 

A motion was made by Soderberg, seconded by Berrini to approve the $5,969.73 bill from Unemployment Minnesota. Motion carried.

 

The Taconite Trail was discussed with a new offer of a 200 foot right of way. A meeting will be held with the DNR to discuss options. This may be a special meeting once the session is over. 

 

Isaac Olson said the state has not announced the grants for broadband projects. 

 

The ambulance issue was discussed with a letter sent from the hospital. Berrini said the hospital has a right to have a say in how it is run. He said he will feel better to have an audit done. Soderberg said this is government money that needs to be accounted for. 

  

A letter from Midco was discussed. The board will look for a new contract when the sale of the towers is final. 

 

The board reviewed the insurance policy on the buildings and equipment. The trailer that was sold will be removed and the building on Lookout Ridge will be increased in replacement value to $75,000. 

 

A portion of the Puzel property where the road crosses was discussed. The board authorized moving forward with an easement from the property owner. 

 

The Forest Service is going to make some improvements to the Cloquet Line from the end of Cedar to Low Lake. 

 

The Lodging Tax board will meet a week from Monday. Now that the additional unorganized townships have been added, there will be new agreements drawn up. 

 

The meeting was recessed at 5:43 p.m. to May 17 at the conclusion of the Morse-Fall Lake meeting.

 

At 7:25 p.m. on May 17 the meeting was reconvened.

 

A motion was made by Soderberg, seconded by Berrini to place an immediate moratorium on private cemeteries in the Town of Morse. Motion carried unanimously.

 

The meeting was recessed at 7:35 p.m. until 7 a.m. on May 23 for Road Inspection. 

 

At 11:10 a.m. on May 23 Road Inspection was completed the meeting was adjourned.
